THREE COLORS OF LOVE

Russia, 2003, ACDC Film Studio, by request of “Rossia” TV channel

Television novel/melodrama

Annotation

Three colours of love is a TV novel in twelve parts, involving a great number of characters and plotlines (intrigues).

This is a story of exceptional, keen and distructive love, which began from the first of September, 1966. This day three main characters – Serezha Samokhvalov (Sam), Sasha Karpinsky and Maks Sokolov entered the first grade and met the main heroine – a beautiful girl, named Masha Petrova. They three fell in love with her together.

Different colors of our life will accompany their biography episodes and will paint in bright and dark colors. Their youth and grown-up period will coincide with turning points in the history of our country: “Perestroika”, Soviet Union break-up, “MMM”, increases of brigandage in the beginning of 90th.

Each of the heroes will go through these events but will keep their first love, which will result in the tragic outcome. Serezha, Sasha and Maks will accompany Masha in different spaces of lifetime. This is an intricate love square, where one more person is involved – a heroine’s first husband Gena Utemov.

Three colors of love is a story of generation where people were over forty, people who moved ahead in business, politics, art, crime in the end of 90th. Each character has his own way. Sam, a faint-heart dandy, became a homeless alcoholic; Sasha, a Jew, moved to Israel during the third emigration period, a noble and honest Maks became a successful businessman and politician; and Masha … who just wants to get some luck in her life.

They cannot get away from each other, because the fate assigned that their lives had crossed from the 1st of September 1966 and forever.

**********************************************

The shooting was held in 2003, in Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Israel (Eilat city).

Initially the film was given a name “semidesiatniki” (“people of 70th”)

Twelve different actors perform the four main characters in their different ages, but the most tragic periods fell to the lot of Anna Samokhina, Ilya Shakuniv, Aleksey Fedotov and Mikhail Vasserbaum.

The students of Theater Academy perform young Sam, Sasha, Maks and Masha. They were chosen according to the appearance of the “grown-up” actors. Alexandra, the daughter of Anna Samokhina made her debute in this film, playing Masha in youth. It was easy to find the similarity between actors, but more complicated was to turn Moscow of a present day into Moscow of 70th years. The action takes place in Moscow, but the capital has changed much during last years and it would be hard to find a place without advertisement hoarding, illumination and buildings made of glass and concrete. The producer decided to shoot all the original episodes in Saint Petersburg, and then to correct graphics on computer, adding some pieces of Moscow views – like Robert Zemekis in «Forrest Gump» made it. This is usual in Hollywood but it was one of the first experiences in the Russian cinema.

They added university building, a sculpture of kolkhoznik and the Kremlin to the view of Saint Petersburg.

It was made so considered and delicate by the specialists from “Begemot” computer company, - said Dmitry Svetozarov, - I think that Moscow citizens will not find it easy to determine the place of any episode in Moscow”.

Reputation and producer image of Dmitry Svetozarov allow him to offer “small parts” to the well-known actors. Olga Volkova, Leonid Nevedomsky, Era Ziganshina, Vadim Yakovlev perform small episodes in the series “The three colours of love”.
